Wedged Tailed Eagle Proof Released

Wedged Tailed Eagle Silver ProofThe Perth Mint has released the second coin in the Endangered & Extinct series the Tasmanian Wedge Tailed Eagle, a huge bird that stands one metre tall and has a wingspan roughly twice its height. Separated for thousands of years from its mainland counterparts it now faces a number of threats, including the loss of suitable habitat.  As a result, it is estimated that no more than 130 pairs are successfully breeding each year. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of .999 silver in proof quality, the full colour obverse portrays this remarkable animal surrounded by the rustic terrain of the Tasmanian Highlands. No more than 5,000 of these coins will be released by the mint for collectors, each coin is housed in a wooden case and an illustrated shipper, a numbered certificate of authenticity accompanies each coin. A truly spectacular second release, the first coin in this series the Tasmanian Tiger Silver Proof sold out at the Perth Mint in under 12 hours.
