The Silver Morgan Dollar
The first Silver Morgan coin was issued in 1878 and ended in 1921, all Silver Morgans coins have a $1 face value to them and have a silver purity of .900, each coin weighs 26.73 grams. The coin is named after its designer, United States Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan. The obverse of the coin depicts a profile portrait representing Lady Liberty, while the reverse of the coin depicts an eagle with wings outstretched. The dollar was authorized by the Bland Allison Act, following the passage of the Fourth Coinage Act in 1873, which effectively ended the bimetallic standard in the United States by demonetizing silver bullion.
