The Silver Australian Kookaburra
The first one ounce Silver Kookaburra was issued in 1990 by the Perth Mint, the Kookaburra come in a number of different weights from 1oz to the large 1kilo silver bullion coin. The Silver Kookaburra have been released as silver proofs and gilded silver bullion coins and they do come in a variety of different privy mark types. The Silver Kookaburra is one of the most collected bullion coins on the market for collectors to buy. The 1oz coin has a 300,000 issue limit for mintage when introduce in 1990, the Kookaburra is the only major silver bullion coin which changes its design every year making it attractive to collectors. In 1992 the Perth Mint released large silver bullion coins to the public, these bullion coins came in weights of two ounce, ten ounces and one kilogramme. Initially these were produced as proofs or specimens, but they are now available as a non proof version as well. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and the face value of the coin in 1990 was $5 and from 1992 till 2012 lowered to $1, these coins are issued as legal tender under the 1965 Australian Currency Act. The Kookaburra is a very large terrestrial kingfishes native to Australia and New Guinea.
